Devon Sawa Reveals Macaulay Culkin Was Originally Cast in Eminem's 'Stan' Music Video

Eminem’s “Stan” music video could have looked a lot different.

In a recent interview with Party tonightDevon Sawa — who starred in the song’s 2000 music video — revealed that he wasn’t originally supposed to star in it.

“They went out to Macaulay Culkin first,” he said Chucky star, 43, said. “I think they wanted him and he wasn’t available, or he didn’t want to do it or whatever.”

Sava continued: “Then [Dr.] Dre, who just saw Last destination and was a fan, suggested [me]. There happened to be someone in the casting office who knew someone who was a friend of mine, and that’s what they called me… and it ended up working out pretty well.”

The “Final Destination” actor said it was “one of the proudest things I’ve ever been a part of.”

Sawa also said that there were some challenges along the way.

“I’ll never forget, they told me the day I was going to dub it,” he said. “I remember, after the first take I took, Dre ran in and said, ‘That was good, but can you try a little beat this time?’ And I said, ‘Oh my God.’ And that’s how the day went.”

He still considers the music video “iconic”.

“Dr. Dre was there, D12 was there, I think Snoop was hanging around, Cypress Hill. It was such a wild three days of filming, it was amazing,” Sawa added.

“Stan,” the hip-hop star’s classic, tells the story of an obsessive fan of the same name whose love for Eminem and his music crosses into dangerous territory. The song’s title has since become a popular slang term for obsessive fans of certain celebrities.
