Dick Van Dyke, 98, Says He's 'Not Afraid' of Dying: 'I'm Acutely Aware I Could Go Any Day Now'

Dick Van Dyke knows he won’t be around forever, but when death comes, he won’t be afraid.

The legendary entertainer, 98, stars in Coldplay’s latest music video for their song “All My Love” and takes fans inside his Malibu home to talk about the lessons he’s learned about love, family and life.

Along with footage of memorabilia Van Dyke has collected over the years, Mary Poppins alum is thinking about aging ahead of his 99th birthday later this month.

“I’m honestly aware that, you know, I could leave any day, but I don’t know why it’s none of my business,” he admits. “I’m not afraid of it. I have this feeling, completely against all intellectuals, that I’m going to be fine.”

As he dances with his on-screen wife Arlene Silver, Van Dyke tells the cameras how “lucky” he feels to have made his illustrious career in Hollywood.

“I think I’m one of those lucky people who have to work for a living, which I would normally do. When you think about how lucky I am, I have to do what I do – play and act silly,” he shares.

Dick Van Dyke, 98, says he would have ‘quit a long time ago’ if he hadn’t enjoyed his career

“I can’t believe it,” he said while accepting the award with his wife. “I feel like a spy from late-night television. I mentioned this lady because she’s the love of my life, because of the problems and fights, but because she was on the show – she played the policewoman who arrested me.”

“She looks better than she did as that policewoman, and I’m the oldest candidate in history,” he joked, mocking the fact that he’s “been playing an old man all his life.”
