Dilip Walsh Patil is an Indian politician and leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He is a seven-time Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Ambergaoun, having won elections from the constituency continuously since 1990. Dilip was appointed Home Minister of Maharashtra in April 2021, after former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh resigned over corruption charges.

Dilip Walse Patil was born on Tuesday, October 30, 1956 (64 years old in 2020) in Nirgudsar village in Pune city, Maharashtra. His full name is Dilip Dattatray Walse Patil and his star sign is Scorpio. Patil attended a district council school in Nirgudsar village. Dilip graduated from Ruia College, Mumbai with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1978 and subsequently obtained a diploma in journalism from Siddharth College, Mumbai in 1979. Thereafter, he decided to study law and obtained his Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws from the Government Law College, University of Mumbai in 1981 and 1983 respectively. After completing his formal education, Patil’s father Dattatray Gavindra Walse Patil handed him over as a personal assistant to Sharad Pawar, a well-known leader of the then Indian National Congress. Patil took up politics under the guidance of Sharad Pawar and since then he has had a successful political career spanning three decades.

Dilip started his political career when he won the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election from Ambegaon constituency on behalf of the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1990. Since then, he has successfully retained the Ambegaon seat.
Dilip is a loyal supporter of Sharad Pawar. In May 1999, he left the Indian National Congress and joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) formed by Sharad Pawar. Since the establishment of NCP, Dilip has been a core member of the NCP decision-making committee and is regarded as an important leader of the NCP led by Sharad Pawar.
In 2009, Dilip was appointed Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He served in the position from 2009 to 2014.

- He was reportedly the leading candidate for the post of Home Minister during the formation of the Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government; but he declined the post citing health issues. Patil suffers from diabetes and also has heart complications.
