In 2022, he made headlines for handing over his resignation as Minister of State for Jal Shakti in the Uttar Pradesh government to Home Minister Amit Shah on the grounds that he was unfairly treated by officials of the ministry as he was a Dalit treatment.

Political career
IIn 2017, he contested and won the Hastinapur Assembly seat. On September 26, 2021, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Jal Shakti in the Government of Uttar Pradesh. In 2022, he was re-elected as MLA from Hastinapur Assembly constituency. On July 19, 2022, he submitted his resignation as Jal Shakti Minister to Home Minister Amit Shah, citing harassment by officials of the ministry for being a Dalit. unfair treatment. However, after a lengthy meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he announced that he would stay in office.

Accused of illegally occupying 600 pieces of land
While serving as MP from Hastinapur constituency, Dinesh was accused of threatening the SDO of the Mawana power department because he claimed that the SDO had received illegal funds. The SDO lodged a complaint against Dinesh but the police took no action against him. Later, an audio clip of Dinesh threatening the police went viral. In 2017, the state executive member of the Nirmal Gangajan Abhiyan Samiti Shantikunj, Haridwar, Mahendra Giri accused Dinesh and his brothers of forcibly growing crops on the banks of the Ganga.

In August 2018, Dinesh Khatik approached Inspector Munendra Pal Singh of Mawana police station and requested the release of one of Insingh’s wives Prisoner arrested by Singer on complaint. Karthik tried to intimidate Singh, saying he would shift him to Ballia if he refused to be released. After the incident, a video featuring Kartik went viral on the internet, with Kartik claiming that he would leave politics if he could not get Singh transferred to Ballia.

In 2022, Dinesh caused controversy when he wrote a letter of resignation from Jal Shakti’s ministerial post and sent it directly to Home Minister Amit Shah. He said officers in his own department did not carry out his orders because he was a Dalit. He wrote in the letter,
I was appointed Minister of State in the Jal Shakti Department under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath ji. No action was taken based on any order, no information was provided to me, no information was provided to me, no plans were currently being implemented by the department and what was happening, etc. Because the Minister of State did not receive any specific information about the department. ”
