From the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Divya obtained a degree in agriculture. She is the daughter of Chennai resident BV Jeyanthi, an officer in ICDS’s social welfare department, and GJ Ramachandran, a former head of education.
She selected the Karnataka cadre after her IFS training in Dehradun and started working as an assistant conservator in 2012 in Bhatkal, Sirsi and Karwar before being promoted as a divisional forest officer in January this year. She is currently on maternity leave for six months.
While she was nine months pregnant, she wrote the IAS prelims.
She told Bangalore Mirror over phone that her goal has always been to become an IAS officer. I was thinking about whether I should go to the colloquium or not. In May last year, I was nine months pregnant and my doctor advised me not to travel. Goa, bordering Uttar Kannada district, was my hub.

My base was in Chennai. After giving birth, I realized that it is impossible to study for the exams by sitting still for 4-5 hours continuously, as I did for the IFS exams. I could only focus on studying for about an hour at a time while my baby was being breastfed.
My family was a huge help. The primary examinations lasted a week, and while answering them, I wondered if my child was hungry. When I was in Chennai, my husband and parents visited me, which was a blessing.
The exam format and curriculum have been changed this year. I took my son with me to the testing site and the first thing I did after I finished my three hours of work and left the testing room was to feed him. She added, “I also took my son with me for the interview last week in New Delhi.
“My experience in the civil service and the training I received gave me an advantage over other candidates.” My experience was also helpful because of the focus on general knowledge and the introduction of a new exam called “Ethics, Attitude and Ability”, which is more practical in nature.
In order to be able to manage the family and society while having the confidence to pass the exams, more women need to apply for the exams,” she said. She advised the aspirants: “They must start preparing for the diploma itself. It is necessary to work diligently for at least a year.
