On March 18, 2022, Gayathri and her friend Rathod were returning home in a Ford EcoSport after attending a Holi party. According to media sources, Rathod was speeding and lost control while driving through Gachibowli, Hyderabad. The car hit a guardrail and overturned. A woman named Maheshwari (38) who was working on the roadside also met with an accident. In the accident, Gayatri and Maheshwari died on the spot, while Rathod was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, Rathod also succumbed to his injuries on arrival at the hospital. Gayathri’s co-star Surekha Vani shared the news of her death through her Instagram account. Surekha wrote,
How could you leave this mom..! Had the best time together..! Still, I can’t believe this..! Can you come back soon, there will be a great party..! Hey hey a lot of sharing..! There are so many things to do together..! Come. Now is not the time to leave, it is too early to leave us…! I don’t want to miss you…! Trey..! love you forever……! “
