She met her future husband, Carla Dean, who is 35, in the laundry at the first 24 hours in Nashville. Dean, a native of Nashville, who owns asphalt asphalt companies, remained firmly out of Dolly’s career during his 10-year marriage. He never even saw her perform. “He’s kind of shy and quiet,” Dolly implies. “What we have together is so sweet and good that I would never want to retire with another.” When she’s lonely, she calls SOS for Carl to come in a few nights.

Dolly and Carl live outside Nashville in 23 rooms with 200 acres, a mobile home for their people when they visited, 25 surveyed hereford, two peacocks, two hounds and 17-year-old sister Rachel. Four more steams were raised there. “I don’t know I won’t have children one day,” she says. “But it’s just not possible to wear children and leave them to someone else to raise while I have a career. If I wait while I naturally be too old for children, I can always adopt them.”

I am Dolly Parton from the mountains and I will stay.”
