After the death of Carl Dean, husband Dolly Parton of almost 60 years, the rural star opens about the mixed emotions he is experiencing.
On Friday, March 14, Parton surprised fans at the introductory celebration for the 40th Dollywood season and then sat down with Knox News to talk about how she was going.
“I’m going better than I thought I wanted,” Parton, 79, said.
She added, “I’ve been with him for 60 years. So, I’ll have to convey some of the things we did. But I’ll always keep him close.”
The “9 to 5” singer also said she was “peaceful that she was in peace.” However, this does not prevent Parton from “missing and loves him.”

Dean “suffered a lot,” she said, before she added that it was “a hole in my heart, you know, but we’ll fill it with good things and he’ll still be with me”,
Elsewhere in the conversation, Parton said Dean – who always had a low profile – would often visit Dollywood.
“He came to the park; he bought his own ticket – he stood in line and got a ticket. He didn’t want anyone to give him a ticket because he was Dolly’s husband,” Parton recalled. “Everyone thinks it’s the funniest thing.”
Dean would visit without Parton and indulge in the food park food, on the way out, and would often offer some feedback.

Parton’s visit to Dollywood marked his first public appearance since Dean died on Monday, March 3, at the age of 82. During her appearance, she addressed the fans and thanked them for their flowers and carats as she mourned Dean.

Parton announced the death of Dean on Instagram on March 3. “Carl Dean, husband Dolly Parton, passed away on March 3 in Nashville at the age of 82. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with the current family attending. He was survived by Sandra and Donnie’s brothers,” the post began.
