Dolph Lundgren and Wife Emma Krokdal Officially Become U.S. Citizens: ‘It’s About Time’ (Exclusive)

Dolph Lundgren and his wife Emma Krokdal are officially American citizens.

The Rocky IV actor and Krokdal, whom he married in July 2023, attended a naturalization ceremony Monday in Los Angeles that marked their official welcome as citizens of the United States.

Photos of Swedish-born Lundgren, 66, and Krokdal, who is from Norway, show them raising their right hands as they pledged allegiance to the US during the ceremony.

Another photo of Lundgren from Monday’s ceremony shows him posing with an American flag and a document confirming his citizenship status.

“I’ve been in this country off and on for over 40 years,” the actor says in a statement to PEOPLE. “I love America and the wonderful opportunities this country has given me. I am proud to finally become an American citizen and officially make this my home.”

He adds: “It was time.”

Lundgren and Krokdal, 27, tied the knot in Mykonos, Greece back in July, a few years after the couple first announced their engagement in 2020.

“We decided to celebrate our love by getting married at our villa in Mykonos with family and a few close friends,” the couple told PEOPLE in a post-wedding statement. “With COVID and a long road of challenging medical treatments, we had to push our marriage plans back many times.”

“We felt that it was finally the right time to celebrate love, life and happiness – in the land of the gods,” they added at the time.

Krokdal and Lundgren met in 2019 at a gym in Los Angeles where she worked as a personal trainer. The couple made their red carpet debut at the film’s premiere Minions: The Rise of Gru in June 2022 and are still going strong, even though the actor has undergone years of treatment since his kidney cancer diagnosis, first diagnosed in 2015 and revealed in May 2023.

“I felt sorry for her because she’s quite a bit younger than me and has to deal with all this ku—– and all these doctor’s appointments, but she was very good about it and very supportive,” said about Krokdal’s support during the performance at In detail with Graham Bensinger in that time.

“I think that’s what brought us together, she’s like an angel sent to help.”
