The Doom Patrol is heading back to the DC Universe, and there may be no villains to worry about. Interview Unstoppable Doom Patrol The creative team revealed that the final cast will likely be up against DC’s greatest heroes.
Dennis Culver and Chris Burnham sit down to discuss their work in an interview with Screen Rant Unstoppable Doom PatrolIn response to a question about which villains the official team will face, Culver confirmed that many of the team’s iconic villains will appear, such as Brain and Monsieur Mallah.
Dennis Culver: We have some classic villains returning. In the preview, you can see Mr. Mallah and the brain. For Brain, we upgraded him by putting him in the body of a cyborg so they could travel around as a couple. General Immortus was also there. Not necessarily the villain, but Batman was definitely the villain in our first edition. Like other superheroes, when they met the Green Lantern in season three, it was a hostile relationship. They did not join forces to save the situation. They often step on their toes or irritate them in some way.
However, Culver hinted that villains weren’t the only thing the Doom Patrol had to worry about. The author mentions that in the first issue of the miniseries, the world’s strangest heroes will come to Gotham for business and encounter Batman. The Dark Knight won’t be the team’s only headache, as the Doom Patrol will also face off against the Green Lantern Corps in season three. With the Doom Patrol now on a new mission to save the superheroes of the DC Universe, the heroes may not be ready for them.
Doom Patrol gets new life in short film Planet Lazarus: Dark FateLarry Trainor’s former commander assembles the iconic eccentric team to help capture a completely transformed officer following Lazarus’ plastic storm. Although the group shows no problem fighting whatever problems they face, it is revealed that their new mission is to save people whose lives have been turned upside down. Instead of fighting new monsters in the world, the Doom Patrol is trying to save them.
Superman has always had a hard time in the DC Universe. Based on their origins, Superman is an easy enemy and ends up on the wrong side of Superman or Batman. At best they’ll continue to be teased and prodded in the lab, at worst they’ll end up with another villain in the rogue’s gallery. The Doom Patrol wants to overhaul the system, giving Superman a third choice and a chance to find a new life. But in doing so, they risk becoming enemies of DCU’s greatest heroes.
As DC’s heroes try to save the world from out-of-control superheroes, their hearts are always right. And yet, they helped a system that helps condemn human harmers in the lab and worse, the Suicide Squad. The Doom Patrol is living proof that superheroes can recover from drastic changes and live fairly normal lives. But to make their point, they’ll have to battle a system that’s been around for years and is ready to take on league-level heroes. But if it means making the world a better place for superheroes, then the Doom Patrol is definitely up for battle with any DC hero that gets in their way.
