Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal is an Indian educationist and the current president of Lovely Professional University. In March 2022, he was elected to the Federal Assembly from Punjab.

Dr. Ashok was born in Jalandhar, Punjab. He studied at DR Jain National High School, Jalandhar Cantt. He holds an LLB degree from University Regional Campus, Jalandhar and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He was subsequently awarded an honorary doctorate by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya of Chhattisgarh.

Academic Career
In 2001, he founded the affiliated college – Lovely Management College. This connection raises many questions about the way Ashok delivers education to his students. In 2005, he received approval from the Punjab government to establish a private university, Lovely Professional University. In an interview, Dr. Ashok spoke about how he strives to maintain the motto of LPU and said:
Unlike other traditional universities, LPU was founded to prepare students for the industry. Great emphasis is placed on cultivating human resources who can enter the industry and contribute to society and national development. This gave way to LPU’s slogan – “Transform Education, Transform India”. LPU is a multidisciplinary university, making the student experience more meaningful than at an institution with a limited number of subjects. “
Political career
On March 21, 2022, he was nominated as a member of the Lok Sabha by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab. On March 24, 2022, he was elected as a member of the Federal Council.

- In 2012, he received the Punjab Gaurav Award.
- In 2013, he won the LMA Vardhman Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
- He received the Shiksha Ratna Award in 2013.
- In 2016, he received the Manager of the Year Award from the Oxford Socratic Committee in the UK.
- In 2017, he received the National Educational Excellence Award from ASSOCHAM.
- He received the Indian Red Cross Award in 2020.
Facts/Trivia
- In 1991, he started the automobile business and established a dealership with Bajaj and in 1996, he established a dealership with Maruti.
- Dr. Ashok has always been interested in academia and in an interview, he stated that he pursued a career in academia because he wanted to make some changes in the education system.
- Dr Ashok’s father opened a sweets shop which was later run by his brothers, who had to give up their studies to take care of the business. Dr. Ashok did not give up his studies and went on to graduate. He used to work in the store during the day and go to college at night.
- In 2019, LPU was the first private university visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Many celebrities and presidents and prime ministers of other countries have also visited LPU.
