Dr Peter Juni News

Everything is incorrect according to the Ontario Science Table, including whether they are dissipating. There were rumours that the Science Table was being disbanded on Friday morning, but even that wasn’t true.

The Science Table made incorrect predictions about its own downfall, just like its failed COVID projections. According to the Ford administration, it won’t go away.

“We’re not removing it. When asked about the situation on Friday, Premier Doug Ford responded, “We’re actually moving it over to public health. There is no justification for keeping this bunch around in any capacity, so I wish he would think twice.

Early in the epidemic, the self-important and self-appointed Science Table entered Ontario’s policy-making process by presenting COVID modelling and projections. Despite being elevated by most of the media, the Science Table rapidly shown that they were a group that couldn’t do even the most fundamental of tasks correctly.

In an earlier report from April, the Science Table estimated that hospitalisations would range from 2,500 in the best case to 4,000 in the worst. But when that time arrived, 1,676 patients in Ontario hospitals tested positive for COVID-19, and only 703 of them were hospitalised because they had the virus; the rest were there for other reasons and continued to test positive after being given a hospital stay.

In contrast to the 375–600 admissions that were expected in that same research, we had 157 patients test positive in ICUs, and only 102 of them were admitted for COVID.

Listing the reports’ estimates that were accurate would make for a lot shorter list; that wasn’t the only one that was inaccurate. After the previous lockdown, the province started to reopen on January 31, and the Science Table foresaw catastrophe.

Except under the most optimistic scenarios, “we expect hospitalisations to rebound after reopening on Jan. 31 and to remain at a prolonged peak,” their research stated.

They made ominous projections that claimed March would see close to 6,000 hospital admissions, more than 4,500 at a moderate level, and just over 2,000 at the best.

Instead, there were only 649 patients hospitalised as of mid-March, and only 305 of those had been admitted due to COVID symptoms. When there were only 157 patients in the ICU at the time, their estimates of 400–800 ICU admissions were proven to be incorrect.
