‘Drama Queen’ Dog ‘Pretends to Die of Dehydration’ When Water Bowl Is Empty — Watch!

When Indigo, a 6-month-old Pyrenees, is thirsty, she doesn’t just bark. She is “pretending to die of dehydration,” according to her owner.

Rhiannon Kostecki, who adopted Indigo in June, recently shared a hilarious clip on TikTok of the dramatic dog lying on the floor with his face in an empty bowl of water and his tongue sticking out.

Kostecki tells PEOPLE that Indigo began exhibiting demanding behavior “right away” when she came to live with her.

Indigo is “extremely performative,” she says. “She’s super independent and has all these really weird behaviors. She’s super, super intelligent and gets really, really excited. But man, she gets the point. She wears her heart on her sleeve.”

Kostecki, who lives on a farm in Duncan, British Columbia, says there are containers of water all over the property, and there is a huge pond on the property. But Indigo is fond of the little glass container and “claimed it as her own.”

“She’ll kind of slide it around the house and ask for water to be put in that bowl, despite the dishes everywhere,” she says.

Indigo has a similar habit with its food bowls.

“If he finishes his bowl of food and wants more, he’ll bang it against the walls, throw it across the room,” says Kostecki. “He’ll wear it on his head. He’ll do anything to get your attention.”

Indigo’s “performance art” extends beyond her eating and drinking rituals, Kostecki says.

“She gets super, super dirty in the pond, and then parades through the mud to the neighbors,” she says. “She thinks she’s really, really, really proud of her muddy coat. And then, of course, she has to bathe and groom herself because those coats are ridiculous to maintain.”

The video has racked up more than 15 million views since it was posted on TikTok last week, with many commenters enthralled by Indigo’s antics.

“This level of pettiness is PRICELESS!!” wrote one.

While some were concerned that Indigo’s thirst was a sign of neglect, Kostecki says that’s not the case at all.

“She’s just a drama queen,” says Kostecki, who has worked as a veterinary technician for the past 15 years.

“I’ve spent so much time educating others about animal health, care and welfare,” she says. “I’m really active in animal rescue. So there’s definitely no deprivation.”

Kostecki adds that there are “too many” animals on his eight-hectare farm, explaining: “You can’t work in veterinary medicine and not collect.”

She currently has three dogs (in addition to Indigo, Kostecki adopted her brother Krados and a 12-year-old German shepherd, Odin), five cats, a rabbit, two goats and a sheep.

Kostecki says Indigo’s brother is “kind of codependent” and has “a little bit of separation anxiety if he can’t see her.”

“She kind of leads the charge and will run around super confident, saying hi to all the animals,” she says. “She is extremely protective of the animals on the property.”
