A suspect who took off with a toddler in the back seat of a stolen vehicle in Connecticut crashed into a car and was killed — but the 17-month-old survived, police say.
On Wednesday, around 9:10 a.m., the suspect stole a car from St. Gabriel in Windsor with a young child in the back seat, police said, WFSB reports.
Shortly thereafter, police received a 911 call that the Windsor Federal Savings Bank on Broad St. robbed, authorities said, according to NBC Connecticut. Then police received a report of a car that had crashed into a tree on Windsor Ave. and Hillcrest Rd, the release said.
Officers quickly realized all three incidents were related, police said, according to the Hartford Courant.

“Further investigation revealed that the deceased operator stole an unattended vehicle in front of St. Gabriel, stopped at the Windsor Federal Savings Bank on Broad Street, entered and robbed the bank, then fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and was involved in a single-vehicle crash with a child still in the stolen vehicle,” said Windsor Police Lt. Nicholas Dally. , WSFB reports.
The driver died at the scene of the accident, NBC Connecticut reports. Police have not yet released the name of the deceased driver.
“The child who was in the back seat of the vehicle was alert and responsive at the scene,” Dally said, according to WFSB. “The mother was brought to the scene and accompanied the child to Connecticut Children’s (Medical Center) for evaluation and treatment.”
