DU Admission 2023: SC asks Delhi HC to listen to St. Stephens Delhi for Minority Admission

Admission to University of Delhi St. Stephens 2023: The University of Delhi has commenced the undergraduate admissions process. Admissions are made for undergraduate studies based on CUET UG results. According to the latest reports, the Supreme Court has allowed St. Stephens, Delhi approached the Delhi High Court regarding the admission criteria challenge filed by the school against the University of Delhi’s 2023 admission notice.

According to the published announcement, students from all categories, including those from minority communities, will only be admitted to university based on their scores in the CUET UG exams.

DU admission for minorities

The university has appealed Delhi HC’s 2022 order preventing it from conducting interviews for non-Christian students. Christian students admitted to St. Stephens is based on the 85:15 formula, whereby 85% of the weight is given to the CUET score while 15% is given to the interview conducted by the university.

However, according to the latest announcement, it is mandatory to weight 100% of CUET scores when admitting minority students to schools like St. Stephens.

Senior lawyer A Maratipuram representing the university told SC that the Delhi High Court has adjourned the hearing on the written request challenging the University’s notification of certain disclosures that would affect to minority students.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Vikramjeet Banerjee representing Delhi University said the university has no problem if the matter is heard by Delhi HC. The High Court further clarified that Delhi HC can proceed to adjudicate a written request regarding minority quota admission for the current academic year.
