While attending Abingdon School in Oxfordshire, England, he first met the other members of Radiohead. O’Brien claimed that his role in the band was to serve and assist Thom Yorke, who wrote the songs. In 1999 he participated in the music for the BBC television series Eureka Street. On 16 April 2011, he appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Fighting Talk sports section in aid of Record Shop Day.
In 2020, Ed launched Ear Opener, an online video tutorial for kids that teaches them how to make music. After signing with EMI in 1991, On a Friday changed their name to Radiohead.
