Ed Sheeran performed to a strong audience in Japan on Tuesday.
The “Bad Habits” singer, 32, recently returned to the same cat cafe where he sang “Thinking Out Loud” to a group of disinterested cats in 2014, and the cats haven’t become fans during Sheeran’s 10-year absence. In a video Sheeran posted to Instagram on Tuesday, the musician appears with an acoustic guitar surrounded by several frolicking cats.
As soon as Sheeran tries to strum for the first time, most cats quickly run away, forgetting their food to escape the music.
“Trying to win the same kitties that ran away from me in 2014, same results,” Sheeran jokingly captioned the post.

The social media clip begins with Sheeran asking a collection of cats, “Who wants to hear a song?” After the cats responded by running away, Sheeran pouted slightly.
“It was no more successful than my last visit,” says Sheeran. The video then cuts to footage of the singer’s 2014 visit to a cat cafe, where he is seen performing to an annoyed-looking cat.
The Instagram video ends in 2024 with close-ups of cafe cats staring at the camera from afar, seemingly waiting for Sheeran to stop the music.
Fans took the opportunity to joke in the comments of the social media post, with one saying: “Obviously they wanted to hear ‘Purrfect’ 😂”
Another wrote: “Ed Sheeran is my spirit animal.”

However, not all cats are afraid of Grammy winners. In December, Sheeran shared a photo of himself cuddling up with one of Taylor Swift’s three cats, Meredith Grey, as part of a photo shoot on the social network.
Sheeran captioned the post “Dumpington #3.”
In the sweet snap, the “Shape of You” singer, smiling and wearing a simple white T-shirt, has his face pressed against the kitty’s as the two lie on an ottoman.

Swifties immediately flocked to the comments, happy to see a cat that the “Lavender Haze” singer, 34, rarely shares.
“Ed confirming Mer is alive is the highlight of my week 👏,” one person wrote.
Another added: “END GAME (TAYLOR’S VERSION) WE’RE CHEATING,” alluding to Sheeran’s potential involvement in the much-anticipated Reputation (Taylor’s Version) re-recording session.

Swift previously said that of her three cats, Meredith, who is named after Ellen Pompeo’s character on Grey’s Anatomy, prefers to stay out of the spotlight.
“The truth is, Meredith just hates being photographed,” Swift said of Meredith in 2020. “… Well, yeah, there is. There’s an explanation. She’s just a tiny little cat. She likes to keep her work to herself. . She doesn’t like having a camera shoved in her face, and who can blame her? So here’s your update on Meredith.”
