Eddie Vedder’s Throat Injury Led Pearl Jam To Cancel Their Vienna Show

Pearl Jam’s performance in Vienna had to be canceled due to a throat injury suffered by singer Eddie Vedder. The band blamed the heat wave in Europe for the damage. The concert in Vienna on July 20 has been cancelled.

Band statement:

“We were also looking forward to tonight’s concert by Pearl Jam in Vienna. Our singer Ed Vedder’s throat was damaged by the heat, dust and smoke at the last outdoor venue outside of Paris. His vocal cords did not heal despite the doctor’s care. This is terrible news for everyone.”

It continued:

“Those who perform and those who come… We are sorry as a band, but we still tried to perform. Ed’s game. There is no access to the throat.”

They said:

“Sorry. Tickets purchased will be refunded. Please. PJ.”

Jeff Ament tested positive for Covid, so Pearl Jam canceled their shows.

Jeff Ament tested positive for Covid-19 in May, which caused the band to cancel certain shows in the US. Matt Cameron, the band’s drummer, was the first to be infected. After using audience members as back-up drummers in Oakland on May 14, the tour continued. The band then went on to tour with former drummer Dave Krusen.

Pearl Jam recruited 18-year-old fan Kai Neukermans to step in after Marr Cameron auditioned for Covid. Josh Klinghoffer and Richard Stuverud also performed in Oakland. The European tour of the band started in the middle of June. Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, UK, Hungary, Poland and France. On July 25, they were supposed to visit Austria and the Netherlands. Europe has seen high temperatures and flames this week. Olivier Veran, a government official, said forest fires in France were a problem. They absorbed 25 times more land than in 2021. Germany’s hottest day was also the UK’s hottest ever.
