One of the most aggravating and deadly ailments in Elden Ring is Scarlet Rot, a Status Effect that deals damage at a faster rate than Poison but for a shorter duration. The Lands Between is filled with locations, enemy mobs, and bosses that can inflict buildup of this lethal disease. As a result, many Tarnished travelers will likely have experienced multiple deaths from Scarlet Rot, making the ailment itself a formidable opponent in Elden Ring.
Fortunately, there are two ways to cure Scarlet Rot and remove the effect, along with any progressive buildup. The first is by consuming an item called Preserving Boluses. Tarnished might stumble upon several of these fluffy red snacks during their journey. A limited stock of Preserving Boluses can also be purchased from the Nomadic Merchant near the Caelid Highway North. However, the player’s goal should not be to find these precious Consumables but craft them via a recipe Cookbook.
To make Scarlet Rot-removing Preserving Boluses in Elden Ring, adventurers will need the Armorer’s Cookbook [6]. This Cookbook can be found within the Siofra River region near the Site of Grace at the Siofra River Bank. More specifically, Tarnished can loot the recipe book from a corpse sitting by a cliff’s edge next to two ghostly Ancestral Followers.
Crafting Preserving Boluses In Elden Ring
Once travelers have acquired the Armorer’s Cookbook [6], they can craft Preserving Boluses using the following ingredients:
- Dewkissed Herba ×2 – can be found all around the Siofra River
- Crystal Cave Moss ×1 – can be found within the Stillwater Cave and Academy Crystal Cave
- Sacramental Bud ×1 – can be found near the Church of the Plague and the Writheblood Ruins
The second way to cure Scarlet Rot in Elden Ring is by casting an Incantation called Flame, Cleanse Me. Costing 14 FP and requiring 12 Faith, the Flame, Cleanse Me Spell is located within a Fire Monk Camp southeast of Church of Vows. Tarnished can reach this location by traveling up the Liurnia Highway until arriving at the Eastern Tableland Site of Grace. From here, travel southwest to the campsite to find the Incantation on a corpse beside several breakable pots.
However, the Fire Monks residing within the area are not friendly to visitors. Therefore, it is recommended that players lure out the hostile enemies to take them out one by one. Once the camp has been cleared, adventurers can enter in and claim Flame, Cleanse Me.
Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
