AN ELDERLY woman and man, both aged 72, were raped and sexually assaulted at a Manchester residence – and police have arrested a 64-year-old man over the alleged attacks.
A 72-year-old woman reported the alleged rape to the police back in March – and a man of the same age “bravely disclosed” the alleged sexual assault a few days later.

The attacks took place in Richmond Grove, Manchester
Vijay Chawla, from Manchester, has now been charged with two counts of rape and one count of attempted sexual assault.
He will appear in court in Manchester on November 7.
Greater Manchester Police said: “On Saturday 18 March 2023, at around 2.30pm officers received a report from a 72-year-old woman who reported that she had been raped the previous night at a residence in Richmond Grove, Manchester.
“Police officers went to the scene, and the victim was immediately assisted by professional officers and auxiliary services.
“A 64-year-old man was arrested on Saturday 18 March 2023 and later released pending further enquiries.
“On Saturday 20 May 2023, while officers were carrying out further inquiries, a 72-year-old man at the flat also bravely disclosed that he had been sexually assaulted by a man at the same address in Richmond Grove.
“On Monday, October 2, 2023, a 64-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and attempted sexual assault and was taken into custody for further questioning.
“Vijay Chawla (10/03/1953) of Daisy Bank Road, Manchester has now been charged with two counts of rape and one count of attempted sexual assault.
“He will next appear at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday 7 November 2023.”
