- In July 2019, Hernaz was detained at Chicago International Airport and interrogated by airport authorities for about three hours. Explaining her ordeal at the Chicago airport, Hernaz said –
I stayed at the immigration office for more than 3 hours and was stopped by customs officers preparing to board the plane. I hold a German passport so I don’t need a visa to travel to the United States. But since I’m Iranian, I applied for a regular visa because Trump imposed some bans on Iranians and they no longer get ESTA, which is why they want to double check everything. “
