Cllr Claire Jesson said: “I would like to reassure local residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident, unrelated to the recent disturbances we have seen elsewhere in the district.

“A large number of officers are present at the scene to manage road closures and provide safety to the community.

“While our colleagues from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are tackling the blaze, we are urging residents in the nearby area to stay indoors with windows and doors closed at this time.

“I would also urge people not to congregate at the scene as this could hamper our response to this incident.”

Crews remained there at 21:30 with numerous road closures in the local area.

It was also warned that sediment in the pipes could change the color of the water outside for some time afterwards.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service issued a warning to the person operating the drone at the scene.

They added: “There have been reports of a drone flying over and around the scene of the incident. Please ask that drones not fly around the scene as this affects the police drone not assisting us in fighting the fire.”
