Eric Bieniemy was a standout athlete in high school, finishing as the Buffaloes’ second leading rusher in the nation. He finished third in the 1991 Heisman Trophy voting, with 1,628 yards and 17 scores, behind Notre Dame’s Raghib Ismail and BYU’s Ty Detmer. He has 3,940 rushing yards, 4,351 all-purpose yards and 42 touchdowns as Colorado’s leading rusher.
As a member of the Colorado national team that won the national title in 1990, he earned unanimous recognition across America and was nicknamed ‘Scooter’. He was named Big Eight Offensive Player of the Year as a senior and was a two-time first-team all-conference selection in 1998 and 1990. He was also named to CU’s 25-man distinguished ‘Football All-Century Team’.
