Everyone can see the red gas pump – but only those with a high IQ can figure out which scooter makes it through the maze

The maze was originally published on the online puzzle creator site MentalUp.

The puzzle has four different yellow scooters located outside a maze of black lines.

Only one of the scooters has a direct path between the black lines to the gas station in the middle of the picture.

“To find the right answer, you have to be very careful,” the site wrote about its puzzle.

“Focus and solve!”

HIGH IQ?

Some readers who are able to consistently decipher puzzles are often adamant that this proves they have a high IQ.

Having a knack for solving puzzles may indicate strong spatial reasoning, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail, but links between puzzles and high IQ have yet to be proven.

A person’s IQ is usually diagnosed based on a standardized IQ test, which assigns a numerical value to an individual’s intelligence.

Anyone can see cars – but you’re in the top 1% if you can spot a weird one in six seconds

ANSWER KEY

The other three scooters will eventually run into one of the maze walls.

The answer key is below and the winning scooter is Scooter B.

The science behind optical illusions

This brief explanation may help you untangle your brain…

  • Optical illusions make a little more sense when you learn that our eyes have very little to do with what we see and that it is our brain that plays a key role in creating images and trying to protect us from potential threats around us
  • Our brain is constantly trying to understand the world at the fastest pace despite the fact that the world is in 3D and the images on our retina are in 2D
  • It can be very difficult for your brain to interpret everything at once, so it will often take shortcuts and give you a simplified version of what you’re seeing so you can react more quickly if the object you’re looking at looks dangerous
  • When you look at an object what you really see is the light that bounces off it and enters your eye, which is converted into electrical impulses that your brain then converts into an image
  • Our brains can distort straight lines if an object in their midst appears to be approaching because it wants to emphasize a potential threat
  • Different colors, light and dark can make objects of the same size look different, or make patterned images look like they are spinning

Also, some readers were amazed by this dog on a leash.

The dog is standing on a pier that blocks the view of the leash.

The dog appears to be walking forward but is held back by a leash.

The leash is probably in place to keep him from walking off the pier.
