DRIVERS tried to discover the optical illusion of a floating car.
The Honda CR-V, one of America’s most popular cars, became the center of a brain teaser as drivers thought the car was floating in mid-air.

Honda used optical illusions to highlight the new engine style for non-American cars.
In one ad, the CR-V appears to be floating next to a person wearing a two-piece suit.
The car, surrounded by a completely beige landscape, has dark shadows under the driver’s side.
The shiny patch of sunlit pavement is untouched by the dark light between the shadow and the bottom of the vehicle.

The bright spot makes it look like the SUV is floating in the air.
But a vehicle weighing more than 3,000 pounds does not hang in the air.
“Let’s do things that can’t be done,” the ad says.
“Like less fuel for more kilometers.”
The ad was for a diesel version of the CR-V, an engine style that didn’t make it to the US.
Internal combustion diesel engines are known for getting better mileage while emitting more methane and smog.

The CR-V drives away effortlessly after a brief moment in front of the camera.
As the car drives, two wheel-shaped cutouts in the pavement reveal that the car cast no shadow.
Instead, it was a patch of pavement the exact length of the vehicle.
