Husband of Joanna Lumley
Joanna, 77, is married to conductor Stephen Barlow. The two married in 1986 and are still going strong after 36 years of marriage. Although the couple reportedly knew each other growing up, it wasn’t until Joanna was 31 that she and Stephen connected while attending a mutual friend’s wedding.
Recalling their first meeting, Stephen said: “Jo looked amazing in a turquoise coat. I’ve never seen anything so glamorous and statuesque”, while Joanna herself said of the meeting: “I felt like I had a kind of electric shock ; it wasn’t about falling in love instantly, it was the effect of a colossal shock, completely unforgettable.”

Last year, Joanna spoke openly about how her long journeys affect her relationship with her husband. “We are both independent. I like to be alone. When I’m away, I don’t even call home,” she revealed during a guest appearance in The Jonathan Ross Show.

Before meeting Stephen, Joanna was briefly married to Hello Hello! creator Jeremy Lloyd in the 1970s, but their marriage ended in a no-fault divorce after just a few months.

Joanna is both a mother and a grandmother! At the age of 21, she gave birth to her only child, a son named Jamie Lumley. Joanna has a very close relationship with Jamie, whom she raised as a single mother after splitting from his father, photographer Michael Claydon.

Now 53, Jamie has two teenage daughters of his own, Alice and Emily, whom Joanna adores. Speaking with Northern echo Back in 2018, Joanna described it as “absolute heaven” when her beloved grandchildren come to her.
