Historian extraordinaire David Olusoga returns to our screens on Monday night in his new BBC Two series, Union With David Olusoga, in which the presenter explores the events of the 17th century that led to the creation of Great Britain.

Who is David Olusoga?
David Olusoga is a historian, writer, television presenter, host and director. David is also Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester and has hosted many programs for the BBC and has written frequently for prestigious publications such as Guard.
Born in Lagos, David immigrated to Britain when he was five and grew up in Gateshead. His transition to television came when David realized that black people were not represented in the media environment, so after graduating from university, the 53-year-old became a producer.
Today, David lives with his partner and their daughter in Bristol.

When did David Olusoga first start presenting?
David’s first performance took place in 2014, when he was leading the way World War: The Forgotten Soldiers of the Empire, which highlighted the African and Asian troops who fought in World War I. Shortly after that came an appearance on The One Showand the rest, as they say, is history.

David’s first big hit, Black and British: A Forgotten Historyhit the shelves in 2016. What is Union With David Olusoga about?
David’s new series explores the events of the 17th century that led to the Act of 1707, which created a new nation – Great Britain. It delves into the long history of the United Kingdom’s unification and disunity over the centuries.
