The tattooed thug, 53, has served just half of his 18-month sentence for attacking his ex-girlfriend Rachel Usher.
Hoganson, who starred in the 1980s cult film Empire State, was back in jail just two days later after allegedly assaulting Rachel at her home on the day he was released.
He was due to stand trial on October 30, but the court was told Rachel sadly passed away that day.
The cause of her death is unknown, but the tragedy is unrelated to Hoganson.
A hearing was held at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court this week where it was decided that the trial would continue in Rachel’s absence.
Prosecutors said her statements will be used as evidence as the new date is set for January 24.
Hoganson is being held in custody pending a scheduled trial.
He has been accused of slapping his ex in her home after being released early under Labour’s prison plan.
The former star also allegedly violated a restraining order against the victim after sending two letters while behind bars.
Hoganson was originally convicted in August last year after he was caught on doorbell video attacking Rachel.
The actor was already under a restraining order when he showed up at her home and pushed her to the ground.
Hoganson was also filmed slapping the woman and throwing more punches during the terrifying attack.
He was sentenced to 18 months behind bars after admitting assault by beating and breaching a restraining order.
Hoganson was once a rising star in Hollywood – he played vagabond Pete in the crime thriller Empire State, set in London’s yuppie docklands, starring Oscar nominee Martin Landau.
But the struggling star slipped into a spiral of drug addiction and crime that led to more than 100 convictions.
In recent years, Hognason has shocked his appearance after covering the self-harm scars on his face with tattoos.
