Excessively Farting Passenger Reportedly Causes American Airlines Flight to Turn Around

  • An American Airlines passenger reportedly passed gas and loudly bragged about it on a recent flight from Phoenix to Austin.
  • A fellow flyer documented the stinky incident on the Austin Subreddit.
  • The aircraft was forced to return to the exit and the passenger was removed.

The flight was reportedly delayed after the plane encountered unexpected flatulence: an overgassed passenger who had to be removed.

The Jan. 14 incident was documented by Texas reddit user lamgalatx, who wrote about the foul-smelling situation on an American Airlines flight from Phoenix to Austin. American Airlines did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

“I was sitting near the row where this situation happened,” a passenger recalled on the r/Austin subreddit. While the plane was still at the gate, the documentary maker says they saw and heard an “audibly disgruntled” and “perhaps hungover” man. He reportedly exclaimed: “You thought that was rude? So how about this smell,” and continued to let off gas loudly.

“[I don’t know] which prompted that comment, and while it’s kind of funny to hear, it wasn’t necessary, especially coming from a grown man on a plane,” the user continued.

But the transgression did not end there.

“A guy who just intentionally farted moments ago decides to loudly and condescendingly say ‘Yeah, everyone, let’s just eat the smelliest food possible at the same time,'” the poster wrote, apparently referring to the odor unrelated to his own actions.

In response, a man in the next row allegedly remarked, “If you don’t like it, you can fly private,” to which the passenger who had the gas replied, “That’s so fucking rude.”

Another passenger interjected: “I think we would all agree that you are rude here,” the witness added.

The argument continues with the bloated flyer replying: “It’s so low class”, before another nearby passenger says: “Well, you’re back here in economy class with the rest of us.”

The scuffle caused the plane, which had left the gate and was heading toward the runway, to stop and return to the gate, according to a post on the redditor.

“We get back to the gate and the flight attendant comes back and informs the flight attendant that she will not be staying on this flight. He simply replies, ‘I don’t understand,’ and she tells him that they will discuss it outside the plane,” the witness said, concluding the post by praising American Airline’s actions.

“He gets up, grabs his bag and quietly exits the plane. We were all relieved when he was removed, I think most people were nervous about what he might say or do next. The trip was only 15-30 minutes late, so overall I think American handled it quickly.”

A similar, more serious, incident occurred almost two decades ago on another American flight, according to the report Wired. On that trip, a passenger allegedly lit matches mid-flight to cover up a fart, causing the pilots to make an emergency landing and the airline to ban the passenger.
