Explanation: What is Operation Ajay?

India is preparing to save its people amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. The country is launching a new mission known as Operation Ajay to help its citizens return home from Israel.

The mission was announced on Wednesday by Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India through his X (Twitter) account.

Starting #OperationAjay facilitate the return from Israel to our citizens who wish to return.

Special charter flights and other arrangements are established.

As tensions rose between the two places, India’s foreign minister warned Indians in Israel to be cautious. The Ministry of External Affairs has also set up a helpline for Indian nationals in Israel to seek help. On the fifth day of the conflict, India launched Operation Ajay.

The Israeli government has assured to support and coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Operation Ajay,

Kobbi Shoshani, Consul General of Israel in Mumbai, said “There are about 18,000 Indian nationals in Israel, including 1,000 students whom we love very much. The Indian business community, which we love and respect very much, contributes greatly to our economy.”

Operation Ajay: Key Details

  • India has set up a 24/7 control room in New Delhi, Tel Aviv and Ramallah.
  • Delhi control room phone numbers are 1800118797 (toll free), 91-11 23012113, 91-11-23014104, 91-11-23017905 and 919968291988 and email ID is [email protected] .
  • According to the Union Minister, the country is ready for any emergency situation.
  • A large number of Indian businessmen, IT professionals, domestic helpers and caregivers work in Israel.
  • Operation Ajay is an operation to bring back Indian nationals from Israel, not an evacuation operation.
  • Special charter flights will bring the Indians back. Indian Navy ships will be deployed if the need arises.
  • Indians in Israel who wish to return will be facilitated in this operation. There are about 18,000 Indians in Israel, including students, professionals and traders.
  • The first group of Indians will be evacuated from Israel on a special chartered flight on Thursday.
