Dr. Faizan Mustafa is a senior professor of constitutional law and the Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR Law School, Hyderabad, one of India’s leading national law schools. In 2014, he was awarded the SAARC Best Law Teacher Award.

Faizan Mustafa was born in 1966 in Uttar Pradesh. He graduated with honors in History from the Aligarh Muslim University in 1987. He developed a keen interest in history and debate and obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the Aligarh Muslim University in 1987. After graduating in Law, he obtained a Master of Laws (Gold Medalist) degree in 1989 and a PhD in Intellectual Property from the Aligarh Muslim University in 1995. He also holds a Diploma in International and Comparative Human Rights from the International Institute of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France.

Profession
From 2005 to 2007, he served as the Provost of Aligarh Muslim University and from 2006 to 2007, he continued to serve as the Dean of the Law School, introducing several courses including Intellectual Property Law, Human Rights Law and Tourism Law. Thereafter, he became the founding Dean of the School of Law at KIIT, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He was also the founding Chancellor of the National Law University, Odisha from 2009 to 2012. Since 2012, he has been the Chancellor of NALSAR Law School, Hyderabad.

- In 1990, he was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship.
- In 1999, he was awarded the René Cassin Gold Medal of the International Institute for Human Rights.
- He was awarded the 2009 Shah Waliullah International Award by the Institute of Objective Studies for his research paper on “Constitutionalism from an Islamic Perspective”.
- In 2013, the Chief Justice of India nominated him as a member of the central body, National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
- In 2014, he won the SAARC Best Law Teacher Award.
- In 2016, he was nominated as a member of the Academic Council of the Bar Council of India.
- In 2017, he was nominated as a member of the Council of Governors (GC) of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

- He served as President and Vice-President of the renowned Shastri Institute of Indo-Canada Studies (SICI), a non-governmental organization established in Canada in 1968 to build bilateral links between academia, government, business and civil society organizations by promoting research and conducting seminars.
- He was a member of the Advisory Group of the Asian Human Rights Commission in Hong Kong and participated in the drafting of the Eritrean Constitution and the Asian Human Rights Charter.
- He is a former president of the National Association of Law Schools.
