Falak Naz is an Indian cricketer, famous for playing in the ICC Under-19 Indian Women’s team that won the T20 World Cup in South Africa. She is a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium bowler.

Falak Mohd Nasir Naz was born on Sunday, November 7, 2004 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh (age 18; as of 2022). She attended Arya Girls Inter College in Allahabad, but to study cricket, she got admitted to Dr Kailash Nath Katju Inter College in Kydganj. Farak was born into a poor family, so her brother had to give up his studies and start working in a bicycle repair shop in order to support his family of seven. She lives with her family in a one-room tin-roofed house near the banks of the Yamuna river in Katgarh district of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
She started playing cricket for fun and later developed a passion for the game and decided to make a career as a cricketer. She started playing cricket at the age of 12. She did not enroll in any sports academy as her father could not afford the tuition fees. In 2015, her cricket coach Ajay Yadav decided to train her for free. She used to play cricket with the local boys. She used to study in a school in the village, but to support his daughter, her father took Falak to a new school, Dr Kailash Nath Katju Inter-College. Her school had a women’s cricket team and the coach started a girls’ academy. Her coach said in an interview that she used to play three games a day, all against boys. She used to practice 9-10 hours a day. She wants to become a fast bowler but also improves her batting and bowling to become an all-rounder.

In 2016, she was selected for the Uttar Pradesh junior women’s cricket team. After performing well in the tournament, she became a part of the India Under-19 women’s cricket team. In 2018, she participated in the Bold Trophy tournament organized by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Academy. On December 1, 2022, she participated in a T20 match against the New Zealand women’s team in Mumbai. In December 2022, she was selected for the Under-19 national team to participate in the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup and won the tournament in South Africa.
Facts/Trivia
- Falak often attributes her success to her family and her coach Ajay Yadav. She said in an interview that not many women played cricket in her hometown but her family and coaches always encouraged her to play cricket.
- Her father said in an interview that he drew a lot of inspiration to support his daughter from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign and the 2016 Bollywood film “Baba.”
