Fall Out Boy set everyone on fire at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
The alt rockers took the stage at the annual awards show Tuesday night for a rousing performance of their song “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” which updates the Billy Joel classic of the same name with contemporary references.
The pop-punk band appropriately flooded the MTV stage with pyrotechnics to perform a track from their 2023 album. So much (for) Stardust. Each member of the pop-punk band — Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Andy Hurley and Joe Trohman — delivered an explosive performance, with each musician ripping through the fast-paced rock song and Stump, 39, belting out reference-laden verses.

The nods to pop culture didn’t stop with the song’s lyrics either: the “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” hitmakers sported David Byrne-like jackets from The Talking Heads’ iconic oversized suit featured in the concert documentary Stop making sense.
Their performance marked their first appearance at the VMAs since 2007.

Alternative favorites were introduced by Bebe Rexha, giving a sweet nod to the long-standing relationship between the two artists. Between 2010 and 2012, the pop singer, 34, was in an electro-pop group with Wentz, 44, called Black Cards.
