Rumors of a rift between Lively and Baldoni began earlier this summer when the cast embarked on an official press tour for the film. Throughout the film’s promotion, Baldoni has largely been absent from group appearances, including Book Bonanza and a surprise screening in June with Lively, Brandon Sklenar (who plays Atlas), author Colleen Hoover and Ferrer. Around the same time, Baldoni revealed that he was on the mend after being hospitalized for a week with an infection.

Speculation grew as the film premiered in New York on August 6. While Lively posed alongside all of her co-stars, including Sklenar and Jenny Slate, Baldoni walked the red carpet with his wife, Emily, and his family. He also did not introduce the film before the screening with Lively and Hoover, despite being the director of the project.

Baldoni also suggested that Party tonight during the New York premiere that Lively should direct the sequel, if it goes into production.
