Eagle-eyed Benedict and Hannah Townsend co-host a TV podcast and are sure James Norton has signed on the dotted line.

The couple think they hit the big gift trail while watching ITV’s new hit drama Playing Nice, which stars Happy Valley and Grantchester James.

In the third episode of the series, James’ character Pete Riley is at a gala event.

But while the rest of the attendees are wearing elegant tuxedos, James is not. He’s in a regular suit.

Hannah asked their Talk Of The Townsends TikTok followers: “Are you watching the brand new TV drama Playing Nice? And if you are, have you noticed this?”

Benedict continues: “James Norton is in the show and has long been rumored to be the next James Bond.

“Now, every James Bond has it in their contract that they can’t wear a tuxedo in other media while they’re James Bond.

“There’s a scene in the third episode of Playing Nice where they’re at a function and all the men in the room are wearing tuxedos except for James Norton, who was wearing a plain suit.

“However, his character was supposed to be humble in some way, so it could just be some kind of wardrobe related to the character.”

Hannah interjects, “But it’s possible that maybe he’ll be the next James Bond.”

George Lazenby: Goodbye acting

Benedict continues: “Maybe he’s already signed contracts and maybe he’s banned from wearing a tuxedo.”

He continues: “It’s only after you’ve signed the contract. Daniel Craig can wear a tuxedo in a movie now. But you didn’t see him in a tuxedo the whole time he was playing James Bond.”

Great global speculation has already begun as to who will play the next James Bond.

Names already thrown in the hat include Aaron Taylor Johnson, Tom Hardy, Theo James and Josh O’Connor.

However, James is currently in first place, with the latest odds at 4/1.

This is despite the actor previously opting out as Daniel Craig was coming to an end.

In an interview, he told fans “not to bet on him,” as he doubted he would get the part.

Speaking to the Radio Times in 2017, James said: “It’s really humbling and flattering, but to have my name [tipped for Bond] next to people like Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender he’s just crazy.”

He added: “If you’re going to bet on me, keep your money in your pocket.”

Two years later, however, James gave an intriguing interview in which he talked about drinking strong martinis – 007’s signature cocktail.

Commenting on the Talk Of The Townsends video, followers were quick to jump on their theory about James.

One replied: “He’s a great choice if he gets elected!”

Another added: “He would definitely be the best Bond!”

And a third said: “Very solid theory. I have other people I would have cast as Bond, but I’d say you might have cracked it.”
