Fire Country Season 2 Renewed After Becoming Most Popular New 2022 Show

Fire Country has been renewed for season 2 while still in the middle of season 1. The freshman CBS drama stars Bates Motel‘s Max Thieriot, who also created the series along with Grey’s Anatomy duo Tony Phelan and Joan Rater. The ensemble cast of the series also includes Kevin Alejandro, Jordan Calloway, Stephanie Arcila, Jules Latimer, Diane Farr, and Twilight star Billy Burke.

Per TVLine, CBS has already greenlit Fire Country season 2. Season 1 of the series, which is still currently airing, has proven to be a ratings hit for the network. Not only did it garner the biggest audience for a debut series premiere with 5.9 million viewers, it has continued to boast strong ratings throughout its season, becoming the highest-rated new series with an average of 8 million viewers per episode.

What Is Fire Country About?

Fire Country is a series that combines the ever-popular team procedural with a gritty character drama. Thieriot’s character Bode Donovan is a man with a dark past who finds himself in prison. In an effort to shorten his sentence, he signs up for the California Conservation Camp Program, a real-life program that allows inmates to volunteer as firefighters. Unlike a similar series like Chicago Fire, the interpersonal relationships on his new team are much more strained from the very beginning.

This is because he has been assigned to a fire station in his hometown. In addition to fighting fires alongside several other inmates, he must contend with the friends and family he left behind, who have various perspectives on the recent actions that led to his incarceration. A lot of the interpersonal drama branches out from the death of his younger sister Riley (Jade Pettyjohn), whose former best friend and ex-boyfriend are both heavily involved in the goings-on of the series. Bode is also never far from his father Vince (Burke), who is the Cal Fire Battalion Chief, and his mother Sharon (Farr, who also played a firefighter in the series Rescue Me), the Cal Fire Division Chief.

What’s Next In Fire Country Season 1

Fire Country

Before Fire Country moves on to season 2, it still has to conclude season 1 following its winter hiatus. It returned to CBS after a monthlong break on Friday, January 6, so the next episode (titled “Get Your Hopes Up”) is due on January 13. That episode will bring the threat closer to home when a truck crashes into the fire station itself, setting off a major fire and a power outage that will make it difficult to fight, a harrowing situation that will force Sharon and her son’s ex-girlfriend Cara (False Positive‘s Sabina Gadecki) to work together.
