Five Nights at Freddy's Director Defends Horror Film's PG-13 Rating: 'We're Sticking by It'

“I would say I’m not expecting an R-rated version of this movie,” director Emma Tammi told Forbes about rumors that a more explicit part of the film might be coming.

Five Nights at Freddy’s director Emma Tammi sticks to her PG-13 rating.

Based on the popular horror video game franchise of the same name, the upcoming film starring Josh Hutcherson surprised many when it was not rated R.

In an interview with Forbes, Tammi dismissed speculation that there could be a more explicit R-rated cut somewhere.

While at Freddy’s the filmmakers “knew that some of the fans would want an R-rated version of this movie,” she noted, “I would say I don’t expect an R-rated version of this movie.”

“We’re really pleased with how the PG-13 tone came across; it felt like the right fit for this particular film,” added the director. – We stick to it.

Tammi also explained Forbes that the filmmakers behind at Freddy’s “we wanted to engage a younger audience and we knew we were going to hit a PG 13 rating, but for an audience that also wanted that level of violence, if you will, or at least the insinuation of violence, we really wanted to include elements that felt dark.”

“Of course, there’s a lot of dark elements to see in the lore, but in terms of some of the murders and everything, it was all about execution,” she added. “We really wanted to make sure we were showing the right amount and doing creative things to kind of insinuate what’s going on or show what’s going on without completely seeing that it still fits that PG-13 category.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s follows Hutcherson’s character Mike, a security guard who begins his first night shift at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, surrounded by animatronics.

However, things soon turn scary, as Mike realizes that he may not make it to dawn in one piece.

This film adaptation comes almost a decade after the release of the first film Five Nights at Freddy’s video game 2014

The game quickly became a phenomenon, spawning spin-off games, anthology series, new trilogies, and merchandise for gamers around the world.

He asked Forbes are there any more? at Freddy’s of the big screen in the making, Tammi said, “I think we’d all love it if this first one does well, and there seems to be a desire to move forward with future films.”

“I think we would all be so excited to do that. We hope so,” she added.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is now in theaters and airing on Peacock.
