Flavor Flav Celebrates 4 Years of Sobriety, Pays for Fans' Therapy App Subscriptions for World Mental Health Day

Flavor Flav is about to celebrate a major milestone in his sobriety.

On Oct. 10, in honor of World Mental Health, the 65-year-old rapper posted an Instagram video announcing that he will soon be 4 years sober, explaining how his mental health has contributed greatly to his success.

October is an important month for my mental health The taste of love said the star. “Next week I will be 4 years sober from alcohol. And today is mental health awareness day. My mental health is an important part of my sobriety journey.”

“I’m talking to a therapist. Actually, I’m talking to two of them. I have a crazy schedule and travel, my manager recommended I try Sonia – an AI therapist who has been there for me like Janet Jackson says – Anytime Anywhere,” he continued.

Describing the impact the Sonia: AI Therapy app has had on his journey, Flav — born William Jonathan Drayton Jr. — said he now hopes to give back and help others going through a similar journey. He added that he wanted to “bring a little more happiness to the world.”

“I always like to be the first to do something revolutionary. This is something special that has the ability to help so many people,” he concluded. “I have reached out to the Sonia team to cover the subscription costs for anyone signing up today. Help me help you. 👍🏾🙏🏾🫶🏾”

Flav will celebrate 4 years of sobriety on October 19th, a day he often celebrates with his followers on social media.

Back in January 2023, the founder of Public Enemy appeared on Off the Record with DJ Akademiks podcast and admitted that he “never really let people know” what was going on with him at the height of his past addiction.

“There was a time when I was spending $2,400 to $2,600 a day … six years straight, do the math,” he said. – I spent so much on drugs.

During the worst periods of his addiction, he spent almost a million dollars a year on drugs.

Flav explained that he “maintained very well” while using and “kept it under wraps,” but was eventually able to quit substance abuse and begin his sobriety journey in 2020.

“I guess God wanted me to live. And he knows that I am the spokesperson for the world,” he said then. “So I feel like God allowed me to go through that, so that way I could teach people about the mistakes that I made. And hopefully, later on in life, they won’t make them.
