Florence Pugh’s Vintage-Inspired Hairstyles Are the Stuff of Dreams. Here’s the Exclusive Scoop on Her Looks

Awards season kicked off with the Golden Globes on January 7, and we’re already ready to give Florence Pugh the trophy for best hair in 2024.

At the ceremony on Sunday, Oppenheimer the actress stopped us in her tracks in a sheer, mermaid red Valentino dress over pants, plus Tiffany & Co. jewels.

The star, 28, completed her look with a pompadour created by celebrity hairstylist and Virtue creative director Adir Abergel. (Two days earlier, Moroccanoil Global Color Ambassador Matt Rez had his ice blonde hair styled by celebrity colorist.)

On January 9, Pugh returned to the carpet again, this time at the Governors Awards, in a glittery Rodarte gown with sculpted curls also created by Abergel.

The pro — who counts Jennifer Garner, Chelsea Handler and Kristen Stewart as longtime clients, among others — calls the newfound collaboration “beautiful.”

“I’ve known Florence as friends for a very long time, but we started working this season,” Abergel tells PEOPLE exclusively of their new business relationship.

The pro says Pugh’s full-grown pixie is currently about three inches long, but that doesn’t hinder their creativity. On the contrary, Abergel says Pugh is game to play.

The result so far: two vintage-yet-modern looks that have garnered tons of Instagram likes and even comments from celebrities like Marion Cotillard, who dropped “WoW” at the height of the latter style.

Abergel, who says he’s “humbled” by the “amazing” response, opened up about their process, sharing that the duo approach each look based on the outfit.

“The look of the Golden Globes was inspired by the teddy girls of the 50s, who represented rebellion and individuality. So I paid homage to that by creating a pompadour that had its own personality,” explains the pro. The keys to achieving it: Virtue 6-1 Styling Paste for hold and Virtue Healing Oil for her high-shine finish.

For the second look, Abegel says, “When I saw the beautiful Rodarte dress, I wanted it to look like an old classic style, but still have modernity and rebelliousness.” He put a “classic twist on Marylin Monroe’s signature hairstyle” with one of his hero products: Virtue Volumizing Mousse.

When Abergel thinks of Pugh’s hair, a few words that come to mind are “edgy, classic and strong yet feminine.”

When we think of Pugh’s hair, what comes to mind, like many others, is a flood of heart emojis.
