Food Network Contributor and Iron Chef Star Esther Choi Announces Pregnancy: ‘Beautiful Journey’

Food Network Contributor and Iron Chef: Quest for a Legend star announced the news in an Instagram post on Monday alongside pictures of her growing baby bump. The chef began her announcement with a cute reference to the Lunar New Year, which marks 2024 as the Year of the Dragon.

“Officially ‘Mother of the Dragon’ πŸ₯ΊπŸ‰πŸ˜±,” Choi wrote in the caption. “I’ve done a lot of hard things in my life.. but becoming a mother is no easy feat. I’m really in awe of all the amazing moms out there. It’s been an incredibly hard but really beautiful journey. I still can’t believe it.”

The post included photos of Choi in a sheer black dress with leather boots as she showed off her pregnancy. She ended her caption by wishing her followers happy holidays and calling her unborn child a “baby dragon angel.”

The mother-to-be became famous with television appearances in shows like Bobby’s triple threat, Throwdown with Michael Symon, Chopped and Battle of the brothers. She and five other chefs opened up about sexism in the food industry for the documentary Her name is cook.

“It’s super inspiring to meet all the other female chefs and have the chance to talk about growing up in this industry and what it takes to be a chef. And not only a chef, a lot of these women are also entrepreneurs. It was just so great to have that community and be able to freely and talking about it openly, and just such a rewarding and amazing experience,” she told PEOPLE in May 2021.

She has also helped create restaurants, including MΓΆkbar, where she is the chef and owner, and Ms. Yoo, where she is the chef and partner. Choi recently hosted Hot one spinoff Heat eaters.

“When they approached me about this show, I thought I was definitely the perfect person for it because I’m obsessed with spicy food in general. It’s in almost every meal I eat,” Choi told InsideHook.com in a July 2023 interview.

“I think it comes from my background because I grew up in a Korean-American household and ate spicy food. We didn’t skimp on the spices. Korean food is strong and a lot of it is eaten hot. Now I’m so completely addicted that I can’t eat a meal without some kind of spice , whether it’s hot sauce or pickled chili or kimchi or even just raw chili,” she added.
