A family in York, Maine had a unique encounter while driving home through a quiet forest.
Suddenly, they had just spotted a mysterious white animal climbing a tree, so they decided to investigate (from a safe distance, of course – as they didn’t want to disturb the rare creature). It turned out to be a rare albino hedgehog!
Logan Kelley, his mother, Kimberly, and father, Neil, were on their way home from the York Recreation and Parks Pumpkin Hunt when the 10-year-old spotted this small, strange animal climbing tree. The Kelleys immediately pulled over to take a closer look at what turned out to be very rare.
Talking to The Dodo, the young man said: “This white-haired creature does not mix with the surrounding environment, so it is difficult to miss. We didn’t know what it was until we investigated.”
The Kelley family admired this adorable creature for a while, until it decided to climb down a tree and get lost in the woods. According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, only one in 10,000 hedgehogs is born with albinism. So this is definitely a sight to behold for Logan and his parents!
“We were at a safe distance so it was very calm and calm,” Logan said. “It is on the edge of a very remote forest. My parents and I were very surprised.”
