Francesca Scorsese on Making TikToks with ‘Big Kid’ Martin Scorsese — and Which Trend He Won’t Do (Exclusive)

Francesca Scorsese reveals how she convinced her famous dad Martin Scorsese to appear in her TikTok videos.

Francesca, 24, who worked as a behind-the-scenes creative director on her father’s upcoming Super Bowl ad with Squarespace, tells PEOPLE of their TikTok videos: “I thought people were just going to say, ‘Shit, that’s Martin Scorsese, what’s he doing? on this app?’ Which it often is.”

Francesca’s account, which currently has around 207,000 followers, dates back to 2018; Martin (81) first appeared in one of her videos in 2021.

She says she first recruited her father to join the video shoot “because we were sitting in the living room after dinner and I was bored, and we weren’t really doing anything.”

“I realized that these videos were getting a lot of likes and I thought, that’s kind of crazy,” she says. “But people really enjoyed watching them. People like to see him do those things and his more normal side. People see this big, big star and incredibly talented person, which he is, but also [they see] dad.”

Since then, Martin has appeared somewhat frequently on Francesca’s TikTok page in videos that range from him guessing the meaning of various slang terms to participating in the platform’s many dance trends.

“I saw people making videos with their parents and I said, I want to do that. I don’t see why I shouldn’t do that,” says Francesca. “It just makes sense to me — I’m a total daddy’s girl. We’re best friends. And I saw people doing it with their dads and I said, I want to do it. So I did it and realized that people not only loved him, but they also loved our relationship. I love it because I love our relationship and we are very stupid to each other.”

“He always says I make him look silly – he’s like a big kid,” she adds. “I say he’s like a 15-year-old in an 81-year-old’s body. He’s like—a certified silly goose, right!”

When asked if Martin ever turned down one of her TikTok proposals, Francesca says he hesitated when she asked him to make a video about being Italian-American in the style of the app’s “we are girls” trend, which has become popular in recent months.

“I thought, let’s do ‘We Are Italian Americans,'” she says. “We’ll do it. But at first he said, ‘No, I don’t want to offend the Italians,’ — he thinks he’s the one we’re going to offend. He said, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no. It’s so offensive. ,’ and I said, ‘No offense and we’re Italian Americans. That’s who we are.’ ”

“And that’s how we’re going to process it,” she adds.

Martin recently appeared in a video shared by Francesca on January 29, which proves that he and the family’s miniature schnauzer, Oscar, are lookalikes. The video has had more than 300,000 views since she posted it.

“People always say, ‘Oh my God, your dad is so lively and wild and funny and goofy, literally silly,’” Francesca tells PEOPLE. “And he always says, ‘Well, she brings out the silliness in me. She makes me silly.’ ”
