The South African Police Service (SAPS) claimed in a statement on Thursday that Buyanga, 42, was arrested at around 4am at a luxury hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, as part of an Interpol-led investigation that placed the business tycoon on a Notice Order.

The allegations relate to an incident in Zimbabwe in April 2020 in which the suspect kidnapped members of his family and fled to South Africa with them. “Zimbabwe officials immediately issued an arrest warrant and Interpol Harare issued a red warrant.” On Thursday morning, the owner of Hamilton Property appeared in the Randburg Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody pending a formal bail application on November 17, 2022.
After obtaining an arrest warrant, Zimbabwean police notified Interpol, placing him on a “red warrant” — a designation that allows member states to detain a suspect if he arrives on their territory. Interpol has been requested to assist the applicant and his minor child in locating them outside this country.
