News about Frank Pesce
Personality actor Frank Pesce, who starred in “Top Gun,” “Midnight Run” and “Miami Vice” as well as the first two “Beverly Hills Cop” movies, died Feb. 6 of complications from dementia. He was 75 years old.
Pesce, who was born in New York in 1946, was friends with Sylvester Stallone, Tony Danza and Robert Forster. Pesce, known for his big smile and eccentric nature, made his screen debut in 1976 as a guest star on “Police Story.” During his career, he appeared in several other television shows, including “The Master,” “Kojak,” “Knight Rider,” “Blue Thunder,” “The Greatest American Hero,” and “Matlock.”
Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky” and “Paradise Alley,” as well as Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer’s blockbusters “Flashdance” and “Top Gun,” landed Pesce supporting roles. Tammy Scher, Pesce’s girlfriend, told Variety: “I met Frank at a very difficult time in my life. He was right when he said that he saved me. He was unlike anyone he had ever known. Frank was always fascinating, funny, and a force larger than life or any literary figure. Don’t be afraid to walk up to someone and start a conversation. Celebrities loved to be around him because he was an expert in music and film.
Pesce co-wrote the screenplay with James Franciscus for George Gallo’s 1991 film “29th Street,” based on Pesce’s early life experience as a lottery winner in New York. In the film, Pesce played Vito, his older brother, while Anthony LaPaglia played Frank and Dan Aiello played Vito’s father.
To say that Frank Pesce was unique would be an understatement, according to the film’s producer, David Permut. Our shared love and enthusiasm for movies. He claimed to have seen more movies than Leonard Maltin and Roger Ebert combined. Pesce leaves behind Scher, his brother Vito Pesce, his nieces Vanessa and Danielle Pesce, and his sister-in-law Catherine. On February 18, he will be buried in New York at Saint Raymond Cemetery in the Bronx.
