Fred won the hearts of I’m A Celebrity viewers when he came under fire from Nella, who has been grieving the loss of both parents in recent years.
Now Fred’s other half, whose name is not known but who he affectionately calls ‘Fruitcake’, has taken to Instagram to share her thoughts on the row.
She responded to the emotional episode, writing above a photo of Fred: “Hard to watch part of the show tonight, but Fred made us so proud to know it was never his intention to upset anyone. Keep your head up Fred, we love you.”
The cook insulted Nella when he took over cooking at the camp.
She brought it up the next morning and also accused him of being rude to her when he said he was “old enough to be her father”.
She told him, “When I was about to burn the fat that you were going to throw away anyway, not even something we needed to survive in camp, you turned to me, with attitude and said, ‘You know I could be your dad, Is it?’.”
The 26-year-old already told Fred (51) that her father died in 2020.
Nella, whose mother also died tragically in her arms when she was 19, then asked Fred “are you stupid?” and said, “Just once you disrespect me.”
She doubled down on her comments during a private conversation with the Bush Telegraph, but as she spoke, I’m a Celebrity aired a recording of Fred and Nella’s campfire chat.
It seemed to show that he wasn’t saying this to patronize her, but was commenting on his own age after she asked him, “Why did you go for eye surgery?” and Fred replied, “Because I’m old… old enough to be your father.”
Fred also apologized and said he would have “sworn on his children’s lives” if he hadn’t offended Nella.
Nella opened up about her reaction on the show, telling the Bush Telegraph: “Last night after dinner Fred made a comment about him saying he could be my dad.
“I was offended by that because one of the first conversations we had was that I opened up about the fact that my dad passed away. I didn’t say anything about it last night because I was kind of just annoyed by it.
“I slept on it and I kind of thought about it and I thought this is not the person I want to be with.”
