Carrot is believed to be over 20 years old and was dumped in a lake at a fish shop in France run by Βrit Jason Cowler when she was young.
But over the years, it has proven to be a difficult fish to catch and is rarely seen in the water.
Αngler Andy Ηackett, 42, spent 25 minutes rolling it in and is happy that it weighs less than 5 stone.
It weighs 30 pounds more than what is believed to be the largest goldfish in the world, caught by Jason Fugate in Minnesota, USA, in 2019.
And it’s more than double the 30-pound bright orange koi that Italian Raphael Biagini caught in the south of France in 2010.
Mr. Hackett, company director from Κidderminster, Worcestershire, won his record holder at Βluewater Lakes in Champagne, France.
The giant orange specimen, aptly named the Carrot, weighed in at 67 lbs 4 oz. After his arrest, he was released back into the country
The fish is a cross between a leather carp and a koi carp, with a traditional orange color. It is said to be the second largest catch of its kind
He said: ‘I always knew Carrot was in there, but I never thought I would catch it.
‘I knew it was a big fish when it took my bait and went from side to side and up and down with it. Then it floats to the surface for 30 or 40 yards and I see it’s orange.
‘It was great to catch him, but it was also pure luck.’
The fisherman poses with his catch before releasing it safely back into the lake. Then he celebrated with a cup of tea.
Fishmonger owner Jason Cowler said: ‘We launched Τhe Carrot about 20 years ago as something different for fishing customers. Since then, it has grown and developed, but it does not appear often. She is very elusive.
‘She is in excellent health and condition. Congratulations Andy on a brilliant catch.’
