In late 2019, Gable Steveson, a student wrestler at the University of Minnesota, was arrested, along with a fellow wrestler, on sexual assault charges. The arrest came after a young woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted and raped by the two athletes.
However, during the investigation, it was found that there was a lack of substantial evidence supporting the allegations, aside from the statement of the woman who claimed to be the victim. During Gable Steveson’s sophomore season in June 2019, he faced a serious setback when he, along with a teammate, was arrested on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct. The allegations led to both wrestlers being suspended from their activities at the University of Minnesota.
However, due to insufficient evidence, the authorities released Steveson and his teammate without pressing charges shortly after the arrest. Despite this, the University of Minnesota decided to uphold their suspensions for a prolonged period, only lifting them six months later in December of the same year.
