Now that Sauron’s true identity has been revealed, Ring of Power Season 2 is free to have villains wreak violence on other characters with complete transparency. This means that the audience can witness the characters’ deceptions firsthand, while participating in them. In season 1, letting the audience get close to Sauron while his identity was kept secret was a stroke of genius in many ways, almost a dangerous betrayal of Tolkien’s character that was shocking, yet also Tolkien-esque enough to be insightful. Season 2 has Sauron fully come to terms with his relationships with canon characters – including with Galadriel’s replacement, Celebrimbor.

As Ring of Power The Season 1 finale revealed that Halbrand was actually Sauron. Sauron’s relationship with Galadriel is not inconsistent with the legend, but it is not described in detail, and the character of Halbrand is a fictional character in the show. Meanwhile, Sauron’s Anata disguise in Season 2 is directly taken from The Silmarillionand his manipulation of Celebrimbor.
By portraying conflict, hubris, and tragedy, Edwards creates a fascinating character around whom the plot revolves.
Charles Edwards, the actor who plays Celebrimbor, has the difficult job of balancing Celebrimbor’s faith in the Valar (aka Anatear) and his own pride with the intuition and common sense that tells him to stop and think. This nuance is key to bringing the story of the play to life, and Edwards succeeds in doing so. By portraying his conflict, hubris, and tragedy, Edwards creates a fascinating character around whom the plot can build.

The Ring of Power is about to usher in its own glory
when The Lord of the Rings: The Power of the Ring When The Ring of Power hit the screen in 2022, no one expected Galadriel’s revenge arc, but Celebrimbor’s corruption arc was exactly as predicted by Tolkien’s Second Age material. It can be a nice surprise that the adaptation takes the story in unexpected directions, and there’s a lot to like about Galadriel’s hunt for Sauron. Although the Second Age story strays from The Ring of Power, it fits the bill in many ways. Galadriel and Sauron’s multi-layered relationship now provides an interesting backdrop to Celebrimbor’s downfall, which is really what Tolkien’s story is about.

JRR Tolkien’s Second Age story is really about the rise of Sauron and the follies of Elves and Men that led to his rise. Essentially, the story is a cautionary tale about the need to seek life and power beyond what is naturally available, as the novel states. The Lord of the RingsNow that the show is presenting Celebrimbor’s conflict, it can begin to truly move closer to Tolkien’s message—that life is sacred, but it cannot be prolonged unnaturally. Celebrimbor now embodies the key themes of the original book more than ever before. The Lord of the Rings: The Power of the Ringproving himself to be a worthy replacement for Galadriel.
