Gangava’s real age is unknown as she does not remember her date of birth and there is no record of her age. According to different media sources, her age is between 58 and 62 years. She was born in Lambadipally village in Telangana. She dropped out of school and studied till first grade.

Her parents died when she was very young. Her grandparents married her off to a boy from a local village when she was five. Gangavva has eight grandchildren.

She was born in a small village and started working on a farm after marriage. She worked as a coolie and also rolled bidis to earn money. In an interview, she said:
All I knew was hard work on the farm, plowing the fields, mowing the grass, and taking care of my family. For a while, I even started doing hard labor, rolling cigarettes, and making a little bit of good money.”

Her son-in-law Srikanth Sriram is a filmmaker who created the YouTube channel “My Village Show” in 2012.

He used to upload videos related to rural culture and daily life of rural families. When Srikanth was looking for an old woman for his YouTube videos, he asked Gangavva to act in his videos.

In 2017, she starred in the reaction video Village Internet Problem, which went viral on YouTube. She continued to appear in various videos and began to gain more and more views and subscribers.
In 2019, Gangavva received the golden play button from YouTube for reaching 1 million subscribers.

- When asked in an interview how social media has changed her life, she responded,
If we believe in our own strength, anything can happen. We have to want it so badly. I believe I can act. I love being in front of the camera, I love acting. It is nice to know that people from all over India are watching my work. I have been to theatre since I was very young. We went to see Mutiara Mugu at the cinema in our village. Since then, I rarely watch movies. I am a farmer and I don’t have a television. Now that I live with Srikanth, I watch movies occasionally. But I watch more on my laptop because I need to watch videos to improve myself.”
