Garth Brooks’ 3 Daughters: All About Taylor, August and Allie

Garth Brooks is the father of three daughters: Taylor, August and Allie.

The country music singer welcomed his children with his ex-wife Sandy Mahl. The two college sweethearts married in 1986 and separated in 1999 before divorcing in 2001.

Around the time of their split, Garth temporarily retired from music to help raise his daughters, moving them into a one-bathroom bunkhouse on his Oklahoma ranch, where he began to bond with them.

“I knew their sweet faces and their nature. But I didn’t know who they were,” he told PEOPLE in 2015.

The “Rodea” singer also recalled the public’s reaction to his personal decision. “People said, ‘How could you walk away from music?’ ” he explained. “But being a dad – nothing can touch that.”

During his journey of fatherhood, Garth learned that children have minds of their own and that parents can only offer guidance. “[Kids] are the greatest joy and the greatest pain you will ever have,” he said. “The truth is, they will be what they will be.”

His daughters also have a special relationship with his wife and fellow country singer, Trisha Yearwood, whom he married in 2005. She calls herself a “bonus mom.”

“They let me learn my way and let me be the third parent in their lives,” Yearwood told PEOPLE in May 2021. “They were a gift I didn’t know I needed. I didn’t know how much children bring to your life until I get a chance to be a part of their lives.”

Garth’s oldest daughter, Taylor, became a father on July 8, 1992.

“After this, nothing else matters,” Garth said after her birth Orlando Sentinel. The paper also reported that Mahl collapsed and “almost lost the baby” when she was pregnant with Taylor. However, her doctors advised her to rest and she had no further complications.

Taylor stayed out of the spotlight, but Garth gave her a look in his 2019 documentary about the emergency room. Garth Brooks: The Way I Am. At the time of the shooting, Taylor was in her second year of a master’s degree in theological studies at Vanderbilt University.

“Taylor is quiet courage,” he said. “Taylor is going to trade her life for someone she doesn’t know.”

In the two-part documentary, she also revealed what Garth was like as a dad. “He was a big dinner party person,” she said. “He loved to make dinner and couldn’t cook to save his life.”

Taylor also greeted her own children. In a May 2021 Mother’s Day Instagram post, Taylor’s sister Allie referred to Taylor as an amazing mom. The family photo shows Allie posing with their mom Mahl, younger sister August and stepmom Yearwood.

“I celebrate the beautiful moms in my life. I love you so much,” Allie captioned the photo. “My beautiful moms and my sister who is the coolest mom, except for my other sister who is also the coolest mom. Happy Mother’s Day🖤.”

Garth and Mahl had their second child, a daughter named August, on May 3, 1994.

According to The Boot, after graduating high school in 2012, she worked at a law firm and attended classes at the University of Oklahoma.

Garth also described August as “intelligence, stubbornness, will” in his emergency documentary.

As Allie revealed, August is a mom herself who gave birth to her first daughter, Karalynn, in 2013 with her boyfriend and high school sweetheart, Chance Russell, according to Daily mail. In 2016, the couple had a second daughter, Gwendolyn.

Earlier that year, Garth praised Augusto’s parenting skills during an interview with KICKS 105.5. “With no offense to my mom, or Mrs. Yearwood’s mom, or Sandy’s mom, I’m not sure any of them could hold a candle to my daughter,” he said. “I think she was made to be a mom.”

Garth also shared more about how Karalynn’s arrival affected them, revealing that he was initially “worried” about his daughter.

“That baby always turns out to be the glue that holds the whole family together,” he continued. “She’s a little stalk that kind of holds the whole family together, and that’s something new for us…she’s a doll. ”

When August gave birth to Gwendolyn, Mahl talked about how the country singer was feeling. “Garth is thrilled to have a new granddaughter. She is beautiful, healthy and wonderful,” she told Radar Online in December 2016.

Since signing to independent label Evangeline Records, she has toured across the United States, including Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana and more.

In July 2020, Garth announced that Allie had tested positive for COVID-19 but had recovered.

“As a parent, nobody knows what COVID is going to do in the future so you just watch out for them,” he said during the press conference where he announced his retirement from the CMA Entertainer of the Year competition. “Pray a lot and hopefully she’ll come out of this thing with just that.”

The following year, for Father’s Day, Allie shared a sweet post on Instagram, including a recent picture of herself and her dad (along with sister Augusta) and a throwback photo of the two of them.

“This is for all the dads who have always been there when needed 🤍 and the best a daughter could ask for,” she wrote.
